Action Alert: Clinton donors threaten Party

This is pretty outrageous: a group of Clinton-supporting big Democratic donors are threatening to stop supporting Democrats in Congress because Nancy Pelosi said that the people, not the superdelegates, should decide the Presidential nomination.1

It's the worst kind of insider politics—billionaires bullying our elected leaders into ignoring the will of the voters.

But when we all pool our resources, together we're stronger than the fat cats. So let's tell Nancy Pelosi that if she keeps standing up for regular Americans, thousands of us will have her back. And we can more than match whatever the CEOs and billionaires refuse to contribute. Clicking here will add your name to our statement:

Action Alert: Stand with Tibet

From True Majority:

"We call on the Chinese government to live up to its international obligations and respond to the Tibetan protests with peace and nonviolence. President Hu Jintao, we call upon you to open up a direct dialogue with the Dalai Lama to work toward a long term solution."

You've probably heard about the violence in Tibet. After decades of oppressive rule, the people of Tibet have taken to the streets to air their grievances. Violence is escalating, but the Dalai Lama has offered to meet directly with Chinese leaders to resolve the current crisis.

President Hu Jintao of China is under mounting pressure right now to decide between a path of violence, and one that respects international human rights and will lead to peace.

We urgently need to call on the Chinese government to live up to its obligations by resolving the situation peacefully and open up a direct dialogue with the Dalai Lama.

Sign our petition to the Chinese President and make sure he renounces force in resolving the crisis:

We need to act fast. Together, if we can collect 100,000 signatures in the next 100 hours, we'll deliver this petition directly to the Chinese embassy on Friday.

Action Alert: Thank Ron Paul for a courageous stand on House Resolution re Israel/Palestine

This comes from Mideast Web via a Green Party listserv. I'm not a Ron Paul enthusiast, although I appreciate his stands on war, empire, and civil liberties.
------------

THANK REP. RON PAUL FOR HIS COURAGEOUS STAND

On March 5 the U.S. House of Representatives passed House Resolution 951, "Condemning the ongoing Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli civilians by Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist organizations, and for other purposes," by a count of 404-1.

The lone voice of dissent was Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), who not only cast the lone vote against the bill, but rose to speak on his opposition to wording of the legislation that "oversimplifies the Israel/Palestine conflict" and "is more likely to perpetuate violence in the Middle East than contribute to its abatement."

We commend Representative Paul for his understanding of the issue, his commitment to principle, and his determination to speak out. If more elected officials acted with the same clarity and even-handedness with regard to Israel and Palestine, we would be closer to a just and sustainable peace in the region.

Action Alert: End this war -- invest in America

March 19 is the 5th anniversary of the tragic invasion and occupation of Iraq. And after 5 long years, the war is now creating two tragedies: Nearly 4,000 American soldiers have been killed—along with many more Iraqis. And the economy is sinking, but the resources we need to turn it around are being squandered in Iraq.

So this year, we're marking the anniversary by gathering at hundreds of "New Priorities" Vigils. We'll honor the fallen, and call for an end to the war. But we'll also send a new message to the politicians in Washington: to heal our ailing economy, we need to end the occupation in Iraq.

It's a powerful message—if we can make it heard throughout the country, we'll force our leaders to start bringing our troops home and start investing resources here instead.
