Big Dem summer surprise - Gore-Obama ticket

Speaking with a friend today he foresaw the Dem's getting so paralyzed by the current Clinton/Obama nightmare that he could imagine an Gore/Obama ticket as a very feasible compromise. Further he saw the Dem's saying, "Thanx Harry Reid for all your efforts, but we think Hillary should be the new Dem Senate Majority Leader. Name your committee Harry it's yours."

Upon reflection that would put two women in charge of both congressional houses. I could live with that, even actively work for the compromise with a full heart.

That will save Sen. Obama from his supporters. Both my friend and I have been around long enough to know that Sen. Obama is going to have one heckuva time living up to the expectations that his supporters have created. Once he is not able, they will turn on him like a wolf and devour him like a sheep.

Why Gore?

I would urge anyone considering Gore to take some time to study his record. He is a one-trick pony, with his only "plus" being environmental issues. But on issue after issue, he has been solidly conservative Republican, pro-wealthy and anti-poor. He helped take the ax to the New Deal policies that were vital to creating our once-vast middle class, while advocating increased "tax relief" for the rich, and the increased use of taxpayer money to help corporations move our jobs to foreign nations. (While in office, he might have actually done something to help the environment, and maybe someone can fill me in on that.) During the Clinton/Gore administration, nothing was done to stop the destruction of labor unions, the deterioration of wages and workers' protections, or to bring some sanity to the health care system. We have seen nearly all of this nation's wealth steadily moved into the bank accounts of the few rich.

Has Gore done anything toward bringing the war to an end?

Why Gore?

DH,
You ask why Al Gore? If the Democrats can not soon find peace, they risk siezing defeat from the jaws of victory. Why Gore? Because, today, he is a well known Noble Peace Prize winner, has the larger view of the human condition and our impact on the world. He is a well respected senior statesman in the Democratic Party.

What you cite of him is the past, way past. You give him no credit, nor room for change.

I am not the only one to raise this possibility. It has been discussed on NPR in the past 2-3 days and largely dismissed, so I guess we are stuck on this madly whirling merry-go-round for at least a few more weeks.

Fortunately Mr. McCain is busily shooting himself in the foot. Once the Dems get their act together and start a serious challenge to Mr. McCain it will look like a comedy of errors, one trying mightly to embarrass themselves more than the other. It looks to me to be a Mack Sennitt Keytone Kops comedy in the making.

God help us.

I would go for that!

Rich, this is a great suggestion. I would love to see this happen. I thought from the beginning a Gore/Obama ticket was the best case scenario for us. It certainly would be unbeatable combination.

Senator Majority leader for Clinton would a lot better than Harry Reid.
