Clergy Against Hate

The Clergy Against Hate website is going live today! Please take a moment to check it out: www.ClergyAgainstHate.org.
Clergy Against Hate is a project to find individual clergy who are willing to sign an open letter in support of the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act (S. 1105). The website features the sign-on letter and serves as a tool for clergy to add their names to the letter. It's a project of the Hate Crimes Coalition; you can find the coalition membership list at www.ClergyAgainstHate.org.
As we move toward a Senate vote, we will be able to provide copies of the letters and signers from each state to their Senators. A similar effort on a different issue was able to attract more than 2000 clergy from across the country to sign an open letter. We hope to get at least that many.
A number of organizations are planning action alerts to their clergy membership next week to drive folks to the site. I hope you will be willing to send it out to relevant lists that you're a part of.
If you want more information, please contact Elizabeth Bukey at the Unitarian Universalist Association, EBukey@uua.org, 202-296-4672 x22 ; or Sharon Groves at HRC, sharon.groves@hrc.org, 202-772-3898. They can provide more details about how this works and provide sample action alert language. If next week is too soon for you to schedule an action alert, no worries, the site will be up until the Senate votes.
Thanks!
Rob
